SenYACum - Living the Art of Life
Tranforming Lives; Shaping the Future
Yasus Afari, Founder-Director of SenYAcum Limited, is one of Jamaica’s best known poets, with a dynamic range of community activities and advocacy through creative and cultural entrepreneurship. Over the years, Yasus has maintained a strong and consistent focus through his work. He inspired the Culture Agency Programme & Jamaica Day Celebration by virtue of his historic proposal which he shared with Minister Burchell Whiteman, the then Minister of Education, Youth and Culture, nearly two decades ago.
Consequently he became one of Jamaica’s first Culture Agents and became a significant contributor to the GoJ’s Policy document on Culture in Education, Cultural Entrepreneurship and Cultural Tourism. This work is aligned to his own concept of Edutainment of which he’s a national & internationally renowned creative-innovator, pioneer and advocate.
Yasus’ mantra is One Earth, One Love, One Humanity.
His successful creative arts showcase ‘Poetry in Motion’ celebrated its 17th annual rendition on February 23rd, 2020. On August 8th, 2020, Yasus Afari staged the 10th anniversary of Jamaica Poetry Festival, which he transformed from an outdoors event, held annually at the wonderful setting of the Louise Bennett Garden Theatre, to a 2 hour virtual event.
It was a very successful live broadcast courtesy of RJR Gleaner Communication Group, streamed LIVE from TVJ studio, featuring poets live from 10 countries around the world and celebrating several of the greats of Jamaican poetry and music. Yasus Afari, and by extension SenYAcum’s, brand of edutainment is:
