About me

I am Nopmanee Chauvatcharin. I worked as a science researcher in a field of Genetics engineering in Bangkok Thailand for 3 years.  I graduated my Ph.D. in Biotechnology, I also received a Bachelor  and Master of Science in Biotechnology and graduate diploma in teaching for the educational field. I received a scholarship supported  my Ph.D. by Thailand Research Fund (TRF) for  3 years. At the present, I am a science teacher educator at a university in Chonburi, Thailand which is my hometown. I have been worked here for nearly two years. I am happy to be a teacher of a teacher. I wish to do the best for my work.

My Action Planner

1. What do I want to improve?

I want to improve my knowledge about doing an educational research in the point of method or technics for an effective teaching that suitable for my students.

2. Why do I feel that something could be improved in what I am doing?

Sometime I found that some of my students did not pay attention to me during my teaching. Moreover, I have to prepare myself for teaching master student in the near future.

3. What could I do that might improve what I am doing?

At first I try to find the way for getting knowledge about technics or methods to teach from books, consulting the experts and my critical friends.
Second, I have to go back and plan my teaching. I plan to use the VDO recorder to record my teaching for seeing what I should improve. I plan to interview my students about my teaching and ask them to do an attitude test. I will check student journals and their assignments. I will prepare quiz, pre-test and post-test for testing them.

What are external influences...

After I and my colleagues (Dr. Panwalai Kewara, Dr. Kittima Panprueksa, Dr. Pattaraporn Chaiprasert, Dr. Apunchanit Jenjit) dissucussed, we designed to focus on the strength of the seniority system in Thailand.

Firstly, do you know the word "Seniority", this word is strongly presented in our culture. The more respect you give to older people, the more polite you are. So we avoid to have conflicts or any arguments. Thai children are taught to listen to the older people and follow their teaching. Most of Thai students  prefer to listen to their teachers and this drives us to be a passive one naturally. So this is one of many factors that students do not have any self-confident to present what they want in class. They can not express freely theirs ideas. They are afraid of being blamed and being embarrassed.

The seniority does not mean only old-aged but also a person's position; profile, education, social status. A person's position;  a boss has power, he can do anythings in the organisation but as an employee, we have to listen and follow even sometime they disagree. Creative thinking is not brought out. There's somehow an organisation regulation that we cannot discuss directly with the boss. They can not share the knowledge.  Higher educated person is considered as a person that is always reasonable and be respected. Students cannot  challenge or protest. It is very difficult to say something contradict them.

However, the mirror has two sides. It depends on what we have seen. You can see disadvantage and advantage in the same thing, just as this case,  the trodden path is the safest. It is like the proverb of Thailand that follow up adult, dogs won’t bite. The seniors or superiors  have more life experiences that they can share to us. They give good guidances or suggestions. They give us a helping hand.
