The information included is for anyone who may have Wigan ancestors.
I am a MARSDEN and I live in Wigan and can trace my line back
to the first Marsden's of Wigan.
I have transcribed Births, Marriages and Deaths from the records of All Saints, Wigan Parish Church, between 1584 and 1900. The reason for closing the transcriptions at 1900 is that other churches became established around that date and burials ceased when the public cemeteries opened. For early burials the graves were actually within the church and only later in the churchyard. The churchyard was landscaped around 1909/1910 by Wigan Corporation, but three Marsden headstones are still visible. The inscriptions and details of where to find the headstones are shown on another page of this site.
