Common Tern-completed 6 July 2010

Common Tern. mainly done in watercolours but cap and bill of bird done in felt-tip pen. On watercolour paper. Approx 24x18 cm.

I'm not quite sure what my inspiration was for this piece, but having had excellent views of Common Terns on several occasions this spring, seawatching from the sussex coast and at colonies in sussex and Anglesey, I guess I just wanted to break the monotomy and do a different background to what I'm used too on a familiar bird.
