Common Swifts-completed 27 July 2010

Common Swifts. birds done in felt tip pen, background watercolour wsh with some felt-tip scribbling on the grass. done on Cardboard. approx 14x8 cm. 

This piece was inspired by the small flocks of Swifts I saw flying along the clifftop at my local patch the day before I painted this. Swiftshave always been a fantastic bird to draw, they have such simple shapes and tiny tweaks in these shapes can change the percieved angle or 'tilt' you are looking at them from. Hopevfully in this piece i have managed to encapture a bit of the magic of having these jet-black racing cars zooming over your head at almost supersonic speed on a murky July morning.
