Black Tern-completed 2 August 2010

 Black Tern. done mainly in watercolours but with some detailing in black felt-tip pen. on Cardboard. approx 10x16 cm..

this piece was done on 2 August 2010, when, while looking through a blog post by another young birder, featuring a pelagic off Cornwall and the wonderful birds and photos, I wistfully reminisced by only pelagic so far in my life, th sadly no longer running Pride of Bilbao pelagics. While this juvenile Black Tern isnt quite as striking as the Whales, Dolphins, Shearwaters and Storm Petrels I also saw, it was the first one that came to mind, and the one I painted. juv Black Terns really do have a wonderful plumage, subtly beautiful, and, as I have just discovered, a joy to paint!
