Welcome to the homepage ofLEGION XXXIIIWe are a reenactment/stunt group located on the sunny south coast of the UK, in the town of Swanage which nestles by the sea in the scenic and beautiful Isle of Purbeck.
(Purbeck has recently been awarded World Heritage Status due to its dramatic and haunting coastline, see link Jurassic Coast) Yes some of you history buffs are probably scratching your heads already; “Legion 33? I've never heard of a Legion 33...” True, we are not deriving our name from any actual group of Roman soldiers that once existed, like for example Legion XIV or Legio Secunda Augusta. We are so named because of the groups humble beginnings, when we featured in our local Easter parade, the Swanage Walk of Witness 2005
The name LEGION XXXIII was chosen primarily to commemorate this Easter Walk, and the fact that 33 is the recorded age of Jesus at the time of the first Good Friday over 2000 years ago.
Above is LegXXXIII member Brutus Crabbinius, modelling one of the early costumes to pupils of St Mary's First School, Swanage, in the winter term of 2005, and also above that, ready to take part in the 2005 Good Friday Parade. [It is possible to see the progression in our kit design by viewing the KIT AND UNIFORM page].
