Welcome to our website, hopefully you will find it useful and informative, keeping you up to date with the work of the Parent Council (PC) and perhaps encourage you to join us.
So, what exactly IS the Parent Council? Basically, the Parent Council represents the views and interests of the Parent Forum, ie all the parents of children attending Laurencekirk Primary. As well as considering the education and welfare of the children at school, the PC encourages links with the wider community, often through social events. It is a very good way to bring together parents, teachers and others to support the school. It provides an opportunity for everyone to work together towards a common goal and is open to all parents even if they only have a small amount of time available to get involved. It is also a good way for parents to become more involved with their children’s school and to get to know everybody.
The Parent Council tries to keep parents well informed of our events and activities through flyers, the school newsletters and now through our website. We are very well supported and encouraged by the school itself, and we would encourage parents/carers to get involved at whatever level they feel able – whether it is taking on a specific role in the committee, attending meetings and helping to organise events, or simply getting involved with our events as and when they happen.
The council meets usually every six weeks to discuss developing school policy, events and sub-committee progress. The meetings are publicised in advance and are open to any member of the Parent Forum. The minutes of the meetings are available on this website and a summary of the meetings is published in our newsletter. The Annual General Meeting takes place each October.
Traditionally, school parent groups have acted as fundraisers for their school and we are no different. We organise a variety of events throughout the school year which help to fund activities and extra resources for the children, which the school budget would otherwise not be able to cover. A good example of this is the cost of transport for school trips. A full list of our events and how the money raised is used can be found on this website.
