Klaus Wunderlich

(1931-1997)

On the 20th anniversary of his death (28th October 1997), we present, as a tribute, a selection of videos appearing on Youtube plus a final interview on the BBC 'The Organist Entertains'.

Klaus Wunderlich is considered to be the world's greatest electronic organist with sales of over 20 million recordings.

Biography

Wunderlich was born in Chemnitz. He played the Hammond organ during the first half of his career, briefly used Moog synthesizers and later switched to Wersi organs with which he created his own unique electronic sound. He was open to different music styles and played classical, operetta, Broadway musical, as well as popular music. He sold more than 20 million records all over the world and received 13 golden albums as well as one golden cassette.

He died in Engen from a heart attack in 1997 at the age of 66 and was subsequently buried in the Alter Friedhof at Sindelfingen.

UK Tours

Between the years 1978 and 1995, Kennedy Street Enterprises organised seven tours of the UK with a total of 159 concerts, which included prestigious venues like the London Albert Hall (17th April 1978), London Royal Festival Hall (8th March 1984 and the London Palladium (19th October 1986).

Each tour was well organised and concerts were often every night for a full month. Each venue was packed to capacity and his fans were able get signed autographed albums at the end of each show.
