Ken Birch is an amateur photographer, of 50 years, going through film & darkroom & now for the last 10 years, digital only. This is in conjunction with Adobe Photoshop versions 6 to 7, then onto Photoshop CS & now Photoshop CS5. This provides his electronic darkroom, much more control than those darkroom days, & so much less messy. In his film days Ken used a Pentax SV SLR & later a Pentax Spotmatic SLR. Nowadays he currently uses 3 Canon cameras, a Canon Powershot G10 creative compact, & a Canon EOS 10d SLR, & for the last few years, a Canon  EOS 5dMk.2 SLR, this is in conjunction with a variety of lenses. This website is an extension of this hobby, one  that he has been involved with since his teenage years.

 

Ken was an aircraft technician by trade both in the RAF & later at British Aerospace Military Division.

 He retired in 1999, aged 55, this retirement has allowed him more time , to pursue his hobbies.

 

His photography takes him to many subjects & places, anything interesting that is, but his other serious interest is steam locomotives, that is a passion that comes from his childhood  & bodes very well with photography. He also produces AVIs ( Audio Visuals, slide shows, set to music, on DVDs) As this website evolves, it is hoped that some of these AVIs can be included.

 

Ken is fortunate, in the area he lives, he is quite close to several preserved railways, so they provide lots of happy hunting grounds. Also, he lives within a reasonable drive to four National Parks, Snowdonia, Lake District , The Peak District & The Yorkshire Dales, all four can easily be driven to, there & back within the day. As a keen landscape photographer , that is quite a lot within easy reach, and provide a wealth of material , weather permitting of course.
