Welcome to Hunters Moon Smallholding

Hunters Moon Smallholding is located between East Grinstead and Crawley, West Sussex.

The smallholding started with just one field, Sarah's field and onto this field she put her old hens, who have been with us for three years, amber stars, who in their heyday  they laid prolifically, but now they do not lay all the time, but Sarah loves them and cannot bear to lose them.  They could not beleive their luck; a new house, tons of grass, shelter and an electric fence to keep out the fantastic Mr Fox.

Sarah's new hens came up from  the coast to settle in Copthorne on Sarah's field.  The black rhodes as they are known are beautiful black and brown almost a partridge colour around the neck with a green sheen to  their plummage in the sunshine.  They were initially quite shy and retiring, but they have now learnt to come when Sarah calls and love a hand full of corn .

Sarah firmly beleives that everybody should have access to local good quality food and the knowledge of how to prepare it, (more of that later). To this end she sells her eggs never more than a couple of days old in the village at a price that is competative and would give the local supermarket giant a run for his money.

Sarah would ideally love to see people coming to the smallholding to see  the animals, soon to be pigs, and sheep as well as the lovely girls who give us the lovely eggs. She has a range of seasonal preserves and chutneys available that are home made.  You can also see Hunter's Moon Smallholding at East Grinstead farmers' market on Thursday.
