‘Iolaus’ was built in 1948 and lived in by an American sculptor and painter whose name was James Richmond Barthé. It is constructed with traditional materials with historical architectural design features such as nog walls, cut stone wall, shingle roof, pine floors, louvre windows and traditional floor tiles.
In 1993 the Jamaica National Heritage Trust deemed it to be a National Monument by reason of its architectural and aesthetic importance.
The house can be used as a family home or small guesthouse and with its history it could be set up as a visitor attraction, tour stop, or museum.
