Holmewood Edible Community Association
Holmewood Edible Community Association is a collaboration of local people who are committed to tranforming Holmewood into a cohesive and edible community where all residents will have the opportunity to get involved with environmental projects at a local level.
These projects will include;
- Holmewood Streets and Works
- Knowleswood Community Farm
- Springfield Gardens
- Gardening and Cleaning teams
- Grow your Own
- Greenside Project
- Save Tong Valley Association
These projects will be the root of initiatives to follow, by encouraging local peoples participation through education and voulnteering opportunities that will springboard local enterprise and provide jobs for local people improving the local economy.
Over a five year transitional period we will develop grow for life projects across the estate, these projects will provide fruit, veg and other produce
Working with local councillors and community leaders we can ensure that sutstainable development remains on the agenda for Holmewood.
We are also working with the DWP to develop new routes into employment for people within the community, through volunteering and providing opportunities to gain qualifications in permaculture design and other horticultural subjects still to be determined at this time.
In recent years Holmewood has had a great deal of bad press these initiatives will show a different side to the estate which is still considered the largest council estate in Europe. If we can make Holmewood and edible community and mirror the successes of communities like Incredible Edible Todmorden, www.incredible-edible-todmorden.co.uk
