The Filey and District Safety Committee has regretfully decided that the Annual Safety Fun Day event on Filey Country Park in August will no longer take place.

After ten years of planning this event, used to raise funds for The Yorkshire Air Ambulance as well as promote the work of the emergency services, the committee feels that the time has come to “retire” the day.

As everyone knows, these things take a lot of organising as well as being expensive to run. The committee has relied on grant funding from a number of sources as well as the availability of the Emergency services to provide the exhibits and displays. Given the current climate of funding cuts it was felt that it could no longer guarantee that these would be forthcoming in the future.

The committee is grateful for the support it has received from Scarborough Borough Council, Filey Town Council, Filey Lions Club, the Police, the Fire Brigade, Filey Lifeboat Station, Filey Coastguard, all the exhibitors and stall holders who have generously given their time and donations to the Air Ambulance over the years. Chris Hodgson, Chairman of the committee adds his thanks to his fellow committee members for their dedication over the years.

I think everyone will agree the presence of the Air Ambulance at this event has always been the highlight of the day, allowing the public close up access to the machine and crew who provide a much needed service.
