Why drive so fast?
Even though the UK has the largest average commuting distance in Europe, simple calculations can show that reducing your speed by 5 miles per hour would on average add less than a minute to your trip but can save you serious money and reduce the chances of accidents.
There is nothing cool about driving fast, it is stressful, dangerous, expensive and not very good for your environment. More and more people realise that by going a bit slower they not only save a lot of money, but also feel more in control of their car and arrive at their destination a lot less stressed.
People keep complaining that fuel is expensive but quite happily buy big, expensive cars, and then pay loads of road tax and burn fuel like there is no tomorrow. If you are really serious about driving more conscientiously, just start by taking it a bit easier with the accelerator and you will be surprised at the results!
Join the revolution
This site contains a number of really interesting facts and tips that hopefully will make you think about your driving behaviour and come to the same conclusion as so many people already have. Join the slow revolution, reduce your speed to 55 mph max.
Why this site?
Who's behind this site? We are road users who simply value the safety of ourselves, our families and others, as well as the quality of our environment. We don’t see the point of lining the oil companies’, car manufacturers’ and government’s pockets with our money for the little excitement that a bit of speed provides in return. We certainly don’t believe the public road should be used as a racing track.
There seems to be an ever increasing urge to drive faster, more selfishly and aggressively, and for what reason? So if we can open your eyes and show you how you can make the road a safer, less stressful place while saving you a good deal of money, then we have achieved what we believe is a more sensible way of driving.
* Fuel economy depends on a number of factors, but tests have shown that by sticking to a maximum speed of 55 mph (which is the most economic speed for most cars) and adopting a less aggressive driving style that savings of up to 50% on fuel can be achieved.
