It's a fact! 1979 was 30 years ago! What about planning a 1970's disco party to revisit a mis-spent youth??
Yes, hard to believe, but the 70’s ended nearly 30 years ago.
It’s often said that the 70’s was a pretty poor era for fashion and music, looking back at the clothing styles today causes a great deal of merriment.
True, the 1970's came in with Rolf Harris occupying the number one slot with "Two Little Boys" On reflection, in music style, there was a great deal of diversity. The British scene of the 70’s brought glam rock, with the likes of The Sweet, T.Rex. Slade, David Bowie.
The charts however, were still reflecting oddities like The Smurfs, as mentioned Rolf Harris, Clive Dunn's "Grandad", but what about "Wanderin' Star" by Lee Marvin? or even "Back Home" by the World Cup Squad? Some things are best forgotten!
Motown was still strong, Status Quo were establishing their own brand of rock, Free, Mungo Jerry, Wizzard, Elton John and Queen hit the scene with greatly differing styles.
Country music often featured in the British chart, The Eagles came to the fore with Country Rock. Scotland's Bay City Rollers set the teen scene alight, along with America's Osmonds. Saturday Night Fever hit the cinema screens, bringing a new lease of life for The Bee Gees and the birth of a genre specially tailored for the disco floor.
The seventies went out with the punk scene blazing.
Music styles were far more interesting than those of today, not just an opinion, but fact proven by record sales figures of the time and the amount of customersready to visit all of the venues catering for the demand.
What’s more, there was scores of D.J.s available to cater for the need.
Doesn’t that make you want to have have a 1970’s disco party?
We can recreate that atmosphere with vinyl records and kinetic lighting.
