Hi and a big welcome to my research site.
A little bit of background first perhaps, I am into my fourth decade, and recently started collecting combat helmets again, my interest first started many, many years ago
(in the early 80’s!!)
But I kind of lost my way, what with marriage, kids, and cars, scooters etc, and other such drains on my ever dwindling financial resources.
Any way enough about me, this site is to pass on some of the hours and hours of research that I have done to identify and age the helmets, and to basically see if what I have bought is actually the real deal, and not some dodgy repro or poorly described little gem. E.g. EBAY.
I love collecting these helmets , but not getting ripped off ,so the idea of this site is to pass on some of my knowledge, so if you want know a bit more about collecting combat helmets, you can check out my site and hopefully learn something about your existing helmet collection if you don't already know all you need to know already!
• First Top tip, do your home work.
Here is one of my less favourite examples,
Years ago bought a U.S. M1 helmet, WW2 period helmet off E Bay ... Days of waiting, full of anticipation... It arrived … yippee... tore off the packaging… "what the F@@@, this thing isn’t American !, let alone from WW2". I knew that it wasn’t a G.I. lid, but I wasn’t entirely sure what it was either, but hours later after looking on the web, I discovered it was a post war Danish M 48 (Civil defence helmet). Oh happy joy I just got ripped again, when will I ever learn!
“You know who you are dodgy E bay seller”!!!
• Second top tip, don’t tell the wife!! “No dear I got it for a fiver, a real bargain; no of course my hobby is not costing too much money, and yes, I know I should be spending the money towards the new kitchen” etc, etc.
I hope that you will find this site useful (if not or if there is anything you would like to comment on please leave me feedback)
Enjoy and keep checking out this site for updates, news and other such stuff.
