Visitors Guide to Scalasaig Medical Practice - Summer 2023
Welcome to Colonsay! Everyone at the surgery hopes you have a safe and memorable stay on the island.
However, if you should become ill or suffer an injury please contact us at the surgery in Scalasaig. Here are a few pointers on how to best use our service.
The surgery premises are only accessible by appointment. Please telephone 01951 200328.
Appointments are available by arrangement throughout the day.
Surgery Appointments
Patients should contact the surgery and arrange to be seen for routine medical matters or concerns. This will be arranged with the doctor by telephone. Please contact the surgery between 09:00-10:30 if possible, to speak to the GP on 01951 200328.
There are no routine appointments on Thursdays or the weekend, but urgent issues can be discussed using the same surgery number.
If an appointment is arranged at the surgery please ring the doorbell at the surgery door and wait to be admitted.
In the event of an emergency contact the surgery on 01951 200328 as usual.
Repeat Prescriptions for Temporary residents:
If you are registered with a doctor on the mainland and are on repeat medication please arrange with your own medical practice for it to be dispensed and posted to you or bring sufficient supplies with you.
If you do run out of medicines please contact the surgery, but please note that a limited stock of medication is kept on the island and if you require a non-stock item this can take more than a week to arrive. Sometimes this may mean that a temporary change to your usual medication could be necessary.

In the event of an emergency, contact the doctor on the usual surgery number 01951 200328. You can also dial 999 and the doctor will be contacted via the Scottish Ambulance Service.
If you wish you can also contact NHS 24 on their usual number: 111.
Please bear in mind that the same doctor and nurse are on 24/7 every day, 7 days a week. We are here to help you, so if you need us, call us, but at night and outside surgery hours please only do so in an emergency. We’d be very grateful if minor issues and symptoms could wait until normal surgery hours.
