In the summer of 2012 I am going to spend a month working and living alongside a rural Sabahan community in Borneo. This will involve a variety of projects ranging from building water pumps in deprived villages, construction of community buildings, to helping/teaching in the local village school.

 I will then be involved in an environmental project helping to reforest areas affected by deforestation, to provide a safe haven for animals that depend on it for survival such as the orangutans. 

The final element involves assisting in a marine conservation programme. This includes monitoring marine life and teaching local school children and adults about sustainable ways of fishing, alongside beach, lagoon and reef clean-ups to promote environmental sustainability. With your help and generosity these sustainable project will continue to develop and enhance the Borneo way of life.

In order to undertake the above projects I need to raise £3,500 by summer 2012 and will be undertaking a variety of fundraising events such as :-

• Holding an auction later this year. We already have a signed racing jersey donated by World champion cyclist Victoria Pendleton!

• A music variety evening in which I will be performing alongside other local 'up and coming' artists.

• My little sister and mum will be doing a 2 mile sponsored swim.

• Collecting aluminium drink cans which are being sold to a local recycling firm. We are being supported in this by the local communities, and my granddad is busy crushing them for me

• Holding regular boot sales.

Any contribution you can spare would be gratefully received either financial as a donation or in the form of cans or items for the boot sales and auctions.
