Welcome to our website.

The Abbey is a Carmelite monastery in Loughrea, Co. Galway, dedicated to Saint Joseph. It is a pastoral and spirituality centre, and a home to a community of friars who follow a way of consecrated life. We draw inspiration from a rule of life written in 1207 by St Albert of Jerusalem, and also from the teachings of two great sixteenth century mystics, Sts Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross.

As Carmelites we organise our day around fixed times of prayer, for the Divine Office and for the offering of the Eucharistic sacrifice of the Mass. By living the Carmelite spirituality which emphasises contemplative prayer, we deepen our awareness of God’s love and presence. As confessors and counsellors, we are available daily for those who wish to avail of our ministry.
