Cameronians (Scottish Rifles).
This web site has been set up to display selections of pictures taken over the years of my late fathers service with the Cameronians Regiment.
My father James Torrance served from 1959 till 1965. The pages show selections of pictures from Kenya, West Germany and Scotland.
Some of the pictures are shown on other sites of the Regiments and friends, a link is given to allow yourself to follow on from this site.
As time has went on I've added other pages of Cameronian and other pieces which will bring interest to those browsing.

Ian wasn't a Cameronian but a Hussar who was one of first into Belsen and since has done many great deeds over his life for many causes |

I would be very proud if you can post the article of my father on the Cameroians Website. ( You will need a translation).
I really dont have much more information about my father in WW2, I am aware that after leaving Sandhurst Military Academy, he was posted to India. From India he then was posted to Burma to fight the Japs that had invaded this country. I suppose that there he in 1941 joinded the Cameronians as 2 nd Lieutenat. In Burma he was part of the 1 st Burma Brigade in the 39 th Indian Division, so called Punjab Infantry. This Division then formed the 13 th Frontier Force Rifles in 1945, just befor the Japs surrended. Before he was sent home because of his malaria, he reach the rank of Coronel. After WW2 ended, he married Margaret Gordon in Aschford, Middlesex. her father, Albert Gordon, fougt in WW1 in France against the germans. Once married he returned to Argentina, Mendoza Province, to join the family business and raise a family. From that marriage, was born Ronald Gordon 1947 ( past away very young, but had formed a family( two boys and two girls). Then comes me, bonr in 1950. I also have 4 sons ( two girls and two boys) all married and with children, so we have 8 grand children, all living in Cordoba, Argentina. Just to finish, the Walker family came fron Scotland ( Aberdeen) in 1910 and settled down in Mendoza province, Argentina.

 Robert McCall. My grandfather Robert McCall sadly passed away yesterday morning unexpectedly at the age of 92.
Robert served with the 6th Btn Cameronians during the final phase of WW2 as a young 18 yr old lad, arriving on the front with his twin brother George as the allies prepared to invade Germany. He could clearly remember his Sgt. Major saying to the group of young lads he arrived with ‘Jesus Christ, their sending me school boys now, if you don’t do as I say i’ll bash yer into the grooond like a tent peg’.
Robert was part of the allied invasion into north-west Germany and fought at the Battle of Alpon and on the road to Bremen. He could vividly recall the horrors of being part of the liberation of Sandbostel concentration camp.
Robert remained with the 6th during occupation of Gelsenkirchen and later served in Gibraltar.
Robert was proud to have fought for king and country and especially to have been a Cameronian.
He visited the regimental museum in Hamilton just 3 months ago, during a visit back to Glasgow, his first since he left as a 10 yr boy and we planned on bringing him to the Cameronians Day in 2019, which he would have loved to have been part of. |

 Francis Hassan
Francis Hassan was my great grandfathers brother born 2.8.1895 13 Bosnia street in the falls road area in County Antrim
He was one of 12 children and served in the Scottish rifles 9th battalion pvt 11727. and died at Flanders on the front line 3.7.1916 he is on the memorial in thiepval pier and face 4D. And the one in Edinburgh castle.
My great grandfather was John Hassan 8376 and survived then went on to marry and live in govan, centre street. He is mentioned on this pic below

 RSM W J Hoaksey. Many thanks to Linda Flannigan of Yorkshire who sent of this picture of her grandad.
His name was William James Hoaksey. He married my Grandma who was from Hamilton and they went on to have 6 children. 3 of them were born in India.
He was the eldest of 17 children so probably joined the regiment to get away from all the life at home. He was very proud of his career.
He had four granddaughters and I finally had a brother. He was delighted as he lost 2 sons born in India.
Earliest memories are of him having us marching around their large garden when we came for Sunday dinner and boy could he shout. Lol |

 Rifleman George Woods. To Whom it may concern
The attached photographs are images of my Uncle Rifleman George Woods (AKA Bunty) service number 3247492; 2nd Battalion Cameronians ' Scottish Rifles'.
George served in the regiment from 1935 to 1948. He was part of the BEF in 1940 and following capture he saw out the rest of the War as a POW (12253) at Stalag XXB Marianburg.
His War Plaque has recently been replaced in Adelaide, South Australia by his daughter Pam. George was Australian he arrived in the UK as a 20-year-old stowaway and I suspect was given a choice 'Army or Prison'.
His Australian relatives ask that the above photographs be held in the regiments archives and promulgated as you see fit.

When is a Rifleman not a Rifleman?
When his name as a casualty is listed on many war memorials and the CWGC stones and lists.
Any help please to find out why? On behalf of Richard Fowler many thanks.
Pre 1920's all soldiers were Private. King George V allowed thereafter Rifle Regiments have Riflemen, Guard Regiments have Guardsmen.
7th Battallion Colours Fenwick Church.
Does anyone have any information regarding the colours of the 7th Battalion. The colours at present are in Fenwick Church East Ayrshire. The colours have eight thistle heads instead of ten? The church being in Covenanting country.
John Arthur Ramsay 2197248.
On behalf of a friend Alma Ramsay. Her father John served with the regiment second war era. He was born 22/5/1917 at 4 Blackburn St Liverpool. He was then in Shaw street boys home till age 14 then onto 79 Atheldene Rd, Walton.
Alma has not much in the way of her fathers time in the regiment. Any tips or information would be greatly recieved.
David Young Regimental Band.
David Young Regimental Bandsman is trying to contact any former members of the Cameronians band for a good old blether now he is semi retired. David is in Aberdeen but only a call or email away!
Robert Steven.
Jim Steven of Peebles is asking if anyone remembers serving with his late Dad Robbie or Boab. He served from 1959 -1968 as Corporal. Originated from Dolphinton and playing Scrum Half at Rugby.
