The Wigan Play 'in Out team are going to stage another play day in Braithwaite park during the school summer holidays
Braithwaite Road Residents Association is an Environmental Group set up in the Lowton St Lukes area of Lowton, in Warrington, England.
Braithwaite Road Residents Association became a core member of the Golborne and Lowton Township Forum who are part of the Wigan Borough Partnership.
Our focus in the area in and around the Braithwaite Road area of lowton, The green space and play area in the middle of the estate and the footpaths and verges nearby.
It was set up following frustrations from local residents to provide a conduit between the local residents requirements, and the available resources for the area.
Although there are a lot of resources available for environmental projects that can be carried out locally, without recognition as a core member within the township it would be difficult for the residents to attract available funding.
POND WARDENS WITH WADERS IN ACTION AGAINST PARROTS FEATHER
8th June 2008
Our own Braithwaite Residents Association pond wardern was on hand in her waders last Sunday removing invasive and potentially highly detrimental pond plants including the strangely named plant Parrots feather ( a plant initially from the Amazon River, but now appearing worldwide)
Parrot feather is now used for indoor and outdoor aquatic use. It is a very popular plant in aquatic gardens. Unfortunately, in outdoor ponds, lakes, or streams, where this plant has taken root some problems can occur due to its presence
The plant tends to be a little hard or tough for most pondlife to eat. As a consequence, problems created by parrots feather due to its overgrowth are the killing off of algae, and insect habitat; problems in irrigation and drainage, and restriction of access. In certain states of the USA this has become so widespread that the plant is banned.
