Austerfield is a small rural village of approximately 500 residents which is situated within the borough of Doncaster, South Yorkshire. It is set in farmland 1 mile north of east of Bawtry and also borders the county of Nottinghamshire.
Austerfield is a very old linear village which is mentioned in the Domesday book and it continues to have strong links with the Pilgrim Fathers who came from this area. In fact William Bradford the second governor of Plymouth Colony was born and baptised within the village church in 1589.
St Helena's is an ancient Norman church which was built in 1080A.D. A Synod was held in Austerfield in 702A.D. which settled the manner in which the date of Easter should be calculated.
