PREFACE
For the times they are a-changing; never so fast. Older folk will remember a time of less headlong pace to life. Younger people may not realize this because it seems that life is headlong all their lives: no time to stand and stare, as the poet says. Yes, there was the time when poets had the time to write the metaphors of life that entered our minds at a different level. Less poetically, there is social psychology: the science of behaviour. There will be another time, still a-changing, but at a pace that is exactly right for man.

The control has been taken out of our hands. This is not a political post-sheet, so it is better left there, in politics. If you like politics, or irony, see Bob Dylan’s Jan 64 song. However, every individual is charged with finding his or her own purpose in life. Yes; we shall find our partners. Yes; we shall have a family, children and their children, and we shall ask: What shall we tell the kids?

We’ll tell them what we have learnt in our time – perhaps only thirty-odd years – that might help them to evolve their time, but without the headlong fall into… What? One good thing about youth is that there appear to be endless tomorrows; time to do all the things you wish – the nine-to-five, six-day-week aside. Sadly, it isn’t like that.

When you think about it, life is what it is precisely
because it isn’t forever. It has a miracle beginning,
opportunity in the middle, an end we needn’t fear.
But it does end.

This website addresses the time-warp from other directions – the spiritual level we all should feel as that different level. A to Zen is an extract from a book, three chapters at a time every two weeks during the year, offered to the Webster to follow as you might  follow a stream down the mountainside, watching its every turn and fall, until it calms itself in a still pool, then slips away quietly until it finds the sea – or the sea finds this stream, for this is zen. It is only necessary to go to LATEST TEXTS.

INTRODUCTION.
The Buddhist Laws are better known to people in the West seeking a living code for a good way of life – brief as it is - in harmony with the wider world. Zen-Buddhism is a way of seeing life - all life - particularly conscient man, in the context of the universe. Zen is Japanese phonetic of ch’an, the Chinese phonetic of Old Sanskrit dhjana and in English it is meditation for a cultivated conscious awareness of oneself in that context.
A to Zen is presented on a website, to meet the needs of the modern world as a stream entering consciousness like a waterfall down twenty-six steps into the silent pool of a stilled mind, minding what it thinks until it stops thinking to address life as it really is which, in modern terms, amounts to good social psychology for the everyday world.
