A History of Football in Douglasdale | sitemap | log in |
This is a free Spanglefish 1 website. | ||
The formation of this website is an attempt at capturing the history of football in Douglasdale from its inception to the present day. It is an ongoing development and as such, I would appreciate any additional information on the history of football in Douglas, Douglas West, or Glespin. I particularly need information on the Glespin teams - Kennox AFC and Glespin AFC, the Douglas West Rovers and Douglas Westonians, and Douglas Juveniles. During the Douglas Amats era there were a number of top teams in opposition . In Lanarkshire they included Meadow Thistle, Bridge Works, Ashgill Hearts, Bothwell, Cambusnethan Talbot, Costains, etc. In the Scottish League there were Muirend, Weirs Rec, Viewfield Rovers, Queens Park, etc; and of course our old Scottish/West cup adversaries, Bannockburn, Cambusbarron, Knockentiber, Morriston, etc. It would be good to hear from past or present representatives of these clubs with any photos, cuttings, or other information, and I will post it in the Douglas Team Rivals page The site will be updated as new information is provided Sources to date have been friends, football colleagues and primarily the newspapers of the day, namely the Hamilton Advertiser, Carluke and Lanark Gazette, and the Muirkirk Advertiser and Douglasdale Gazette Many thanks also to Alan Scanlon, Jimmy Shepherd, Willie Drennan, John Jackson, Bert Jackson, Jimmy Harvie, Tom Bairner, Robert Tweedie, Davie Anderson, James Connolly, Bobby McClymont, and Peter McLeish who have contributed a lot of information I hope you will find the site interesting and informative and that it will bring back the memories of many an encounter with opposing teams, and the cameraderie that develops through being part of a team. Please sign the guest book and leave any messages in the feedback page. Best Regards Kenny Sludden
