What are cultural influences on student learning?
Respect for elders and for people in higher positions is a cultural influence on Thai children learning behaviors. Children are expected to respect on what parents and teachers say. In classroom children are passive recipients of knowledge. They are required to listen to information directly from their teachers and not to question in class. There is no interaction between students and teacher and students and students. This leads students to quiet classroom.
Thai people believe in fortune telling and superstition. Most of Thai people grow up with hearing the superstitions. Some of them still believed that it is true. Thai students then get familiar with the way to get information or gain knowledge passively without think critically and scientifically. For example, Thai students select some products because they believe on the advertisement rather than the proved evidences. Thai students seem to be unreasonable persons.
